You are asked to gather at the Methodist Hall on Seaton Street. The route and order of the procession will be explained at the rehearsal; therefore, it is important to report to rehearsal and to be on time.
In addition, all students are asked to report to the Burdon Street Campus on Wednesday 15th November 2017 between 4:00-6:00 p.m. to have their group pictures taken. It is very important as this picture will form a part of your graduation package.
5. COMMENCEMENT EXERCISES (PROCEDURES)
On Tuesday, 21 st November 2017, please assemble at the Methodist Hall (Old Boys’ School) no later than 3:00 PM. You will then be directed to specific dressing areas. All candidates are required to wear black shoes. Men should wear black or dark trousers. Flowers or decorative jewelry should not be worn on the academic gown. An usher will provide each graduand with his/her name card and you must keep this card in your possession until the presentation of your
certificate.
THE PROCESSIONAL
The Procession will assemble on Seaton Street in the proper divisional-alphabetical order which will be established at rehearsal. This order is to be maintained throughout the entire ceremony. The procession will start promptly at 4:15 PM.
The procession will be led by the Marshall. While processing, maintain about a two-foot or an arm’s length distance between yourself and the person in front of you. Graduands will be seated in a reserved section at the front of the Church.
You are required to remain standing until after the invocation.
THE COMMENCEMENT PROGRAMME
Following the keynote address, the Presiding Officer will request of each Dean that he or she introduces and presents the graduating class of each division to the Registrar, Ms. Yasmaine Davis and Chairman, Mr. Vincent Samuel. The presentation will be conducted in the following order: Teacher Education, Adult and Continuing Education, Arts, Science, & General Studies and Technical & Vocational Education & Management Studies.
Prior to the Chairman’s conferring of the certificates, candidates should move toward the center of the church as guided by the ushers. DO NOT WAIT UNTIL YOUR NAME IS CALLED TO MOVE FORWARD. You MUST hand your name card to the usher so the Dean can call your name. As the Dean calls your name, walk to the podium to receive your certificate, diploma, or degree, as well as a handshake from the Chairman. Exit to the left of the center aisle. Immediately proceed to your seat, and REMAIN STANDING UNTIL ALL of the CANDIDATES IN YOUR DIVISION HAVE RETURNED TO THEIR SEATS. The Presiding Officer will ask the graduates to be seated. Each group should stand as a separate body and follow the same procedures as outlined.
PHOTOGRAPHS
Photos will be taken during the conferring of certificates; therefore, students are asked not to pause for any additional photographs, as this will delay the proceedings. Graduates are welcomed to have other photographs taken on the stage immediately following the recessional.
BENEDICTION AND RECESSIONAL
The Platform Committee, guided by the Marshall, will lead the recessional. Please do not stop in the aisle or breezeway to shake hands or to take photographs, as this will only stop the flow of the procession and cause congestion.
